Every year I have always given something up for Lent. Over the past few years I have set up a page on Facebook and I talk about what I have given up for Lent and what I have done. I am not an overly religious person, but was brought up to follow the Church of England faith, and have tried to do though most of my life.
Mainly because I love the whole community aspect that being part of a Church can offer. Especially in to days society where people are to dependent on social media in order to communicate with each other. To that point where most towns and communities have become soulless and had feel like they have had the "Heart Ripped" out of them. People barley speak to each other any more, of go out. They would rather sit in and watch TV on there 24inch Plasma with cheep alcohol, order take out, play on their X Box or use social media.
This is something I find very upsetting since I would always go to my local pub with my family on weekends, listen to live music and play pool, my local pub is now a care home, just like many public houses in my home town they have now being used as offices, flats, parks, private rented accommodation and just left to fall a part.
In some ways it is nice to see that the builds have been used and have not be knocked down and replaced with a row of boxes, but it is still a shame that it had to happen in the first place.
So this year after speaking to my partner and family I have decided to look into giving up my hair. For more information about this and to see weather it is something that I can do and go though with please keep an eye out for any up dates that I shall be posting on the following links below.
Yes these will be only be able to be viewed via social media, which was some thing I did give up one year and succeeded in doing.
Now that I live a more nomadic life style I am only on line when I can find a mooring with a good "hot spot" or a local library to use.
